When you hear about people in Africa dying
of AIDS, do you ever wonder what becomes
of the children they leave behind?
Every time an adult dies of AIDS, chances are that person is a father or mother, and is leaving behind a family of children orphaned and helpless. These children are victims of a disease they had nothing to do with. Many African nations are now keeping statistics on child-headed households, defined as a child 12 years or younger as the sole provider for younger siblings. Each one of these children is living out a story of abandonment, poverty and dependence – a story, for some, that can be rewritten with the help of Ugandan Lambs.
